OSAGE, IOWA - Herb Werner, age 87, of Osage, Iowa, died Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920 and Osage American Legion Post 278. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 2:30 p.m.
Herb was born July 4, 1925, at Fall Creek, Wisconsin, the son of Hubert and Florentine (Weber) Werner. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On October 29, 1947, Herb married Angela Hemann at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Meyer, Iowa. He was employed by C.R. Champion and Sons Furniture Store.
Herb was a life member of the Osage V.F.W. and the Osage American Legion. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Herb enjoyed fishing, bowling, jigsaw puzzles, cards, reading and dancing.
Herb is survived by his wife of 65 years, Angela of Osage; his children, Jim (Dort) of Osage, Randy (Myra) of Northwood, Dori of Rochester, Andy of Greenwood, Ark., John (Carolyn) of Osage, Joe of Osage and LeGene (Al) Smith of Osage; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clayton (Florence) of Osage; and two sisters, Marion Dachel of Hastings, Minn., and Betty Williams of St. Croix Falls, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Maylon Wigant.
