Rev. Robert W. Lemmermann

St. Ansgar, Iowa - The Rev. Robert W. Lemmermann, 81, died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.

His funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, with the Rev. Peter Chang officiating. Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, where a luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. for family and friends attending the funeral. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Robert William Lemmermann was born on November 23, 1930, to Harold and Grace (Rodman) Lemmermann in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. He attended Ft. Hamilton High School in Brooklyn and later graduated from West Virginia Western College and Drew University Theological Seminary in Madison, New Jersey. On August 31, 1959, he married Virginia Ellen Williams in Whittier, Iowa. They had two children, Edward Andrew and Janet Ellen.

He faithfully served the United Methodist Church as an ordained minister for 35 years, serving churches in New York, Connecticut and Iowa. He was steadfast and constant in this calling, continuing to preach after his retirement in 1995.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Virginia; his parents, Harold and Grace; and numerous aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his children, Ed Lemmermann of Geneva, Minnesota, and Janet Lemmermann of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Thomas, Alex and Molly; and a brother, Harold Lemmermann Jr.

Memorials may be made to the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church and the United Negro College Fund.
