Emil Rasmus Folkedahl Smith was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa, March 3, 1880 and died at St. Ansgar, March 16, 1915. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Haavald Folkendahl Smith, both deceased.

Emil was baptized May 9, 1880 by Rev. Johan Olsen. He was confirmed December 13, 1896 by Rev. Sigurd Olson. He was reared in the Lutheran faith and was a life long member of the Norwegian Lutheran Congregation of St. Ansgar, Iowa.

His early years were spent at home. The later years were mostly spent in North Dakota and Minnesota. He was of a retiring disposition, yet withal a loyal and devoted son, brother and friend.

He is survived by his widowed step-mother, Mrs. Johannas Vig Smith; also two sisters and three brothers. They are: Mrs. Anna Mathilda McVay of Sidney, Montana, Mrs. Christina Amalia Hagemann of Froid, Montana, Olaf C. Smith of Kansas City, Kansas, Anton M. Smith of Douglas, Arizona, Hoval A. Smith of Bisbee, Arizona.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. M.E. Waldeland, pastor of the St. Ansgar United Norwegian Lutheran church. Services were held March 19, 1915 at the residence of Mrs. John Hoval Smith and at the Norwegian Lutheran church.

Interment took place at the family burial place in the St. Ansgar Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery.
