Henry William Winsor was born December 18, 1851 in New York, the son of Henry and Jemima (Cook) Winsor.

He married He married Martha Jane Sadler, the daughter of John William Sadler and Rebecca (Hipes) Sadler.

Henry had a good farm near his father’s farm at McIntire. After selling this, they lived in the Little Cedar Community for a number of years. Earlier they had lived at Osage, Iowa.

Henry’s daughter, Ruth, recalls that her parents were interested in things of the spirit rather than material gain. They provided their children with as much of the beauty of this world as was in their power.

Ruth has tender memories of her father, on long winter evenings, playing his violin, endearing to them the old folk songs of long ago. She can still hear his fervent prayers. No one has ever put so much into one simple prayer as he did when asking the blessings before meals.

She recalls how her father loved horse. They had a beautiful team of black driving horses in which the family took great pride. He always had high spirited animals but was once seriously injured in a run-away. He carried the scars in his leg and was forced to limp to the end of his days.

Henry liked to hunt and enjoyed the out of doors. The land was his first love but when he was in his fifties, he moved his family to Minneapolis where he had a painting and decorating business.

Henry was one of the red-haired members of the Winsor family. He wore a goatee which turned white as he grew older and he was most distinguished in appearance.

Martha’s family came from Crawfordsville, Indiana but she was born after they took homestead land in Iowa.

Martha and Henry met when Martha taught at a country school and boarded with Henry and Jemima Winsor. She was 20 years old in 1876 when she met Henry’s niece, Coralyn Tower, who lived in the Winsor home that year. They became good friends.

Martha stood straight as a rod, even after her hair had turned a lovely white. She was most aristocratic in appearance and her snapping eyes were as black as the velvet ribbon she wore at her throat.

Henry and Martha had 4 children; Delbert Lee Winsor; Alonzo Jay Winsor; Charles W. Winsor and Ruth Winsor, all born in Mitchell County, Iowa.

(a) Delbert Lee Winsor was born February 21, 1880 and died January 4, 1883 (buried in Wayne Cemetery)

(b) Alonzo Jay Winsor was born March 1882 and died October 29, 1914 (buried in Wayne Cemetery)

(c) Charles W. Winsor was born August 5 1885 and died November 28, 1934 in Minnesota

(d) Ruth Edna Winsor was born April 3, 1896 and died August 25, 1973 in Minnesota. She married Harold Johnson Wicks. He was born January 21, 1892 and died September 6, 1940 in Minnesota

Henry died November 1, 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Martha died July 5, 1936 in Minneapolis.
