Wilhelm Kruger – March 24, 1832 – September 8, 1909
Mr. William Kruger
Last Friday afternoon the remains of William Kruger, one of the pioneers of this vicinity, were laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery south of Riceville.
The deceased, whose death was caused by dropsy and Bright's disease, was born on the 24th day of March 1832, in Mechlinburg-Schwerin, Germany. At the age of 22 years he emigrated with his mother to America, settling first in the state of Wisconsin.
Here he met Miss Henriette Leubow to whom he was united in marriage on the first day of May in the year 1859. Two years later the couple moved to Iowa, and settled three miles south of Riceville, where they lived ever since.
Their matrimonial state was blessed with twelve children, nine sons and three daughters, of whom six sons and three daughters are still living.
The deceased was well known in this community, having been one of the most prominent as well as prosperous farmers in this vicinity.
As a citizen he was honored and respected by all who knew him. He was also a staunch member and liberal supporter of the church. It was largely through his effort that the Lutheran church south of the city was organized. Of this church he remained a member until his death. The deceased reached the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 8 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure, besides his aged widow, one step-brother, nine children and thirty-nine grandchildren.
