Florence Lenore Meyer Sponheim was born on February 4, 1895 on a farm east of Lyle, Minnesota to Christian and Christina Sampson Meyer, the youngest of seven children. She was baptized on March 22, 1895 and confirmed at the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, at Lyle on June 9, 1909.

Florence graduated from Lyle High School and Normal College, Austin, Minnesota after which she taught in country schools for five years.

On October 4, 1921, she was united in marriage to Selmer Milton Sponheim. They farmed for 36 years south of St. Ansgar before moving into St. Ansgar in 1957.

Florence died at the age of 94 years on December 26, 1989 at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Selmer Sponheim in 1988; a daughter, Mrs. Leland (Carol) Feldt in 1983 and a grandson, Gene Feldt, in 1948.

Survivors include their daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Marlys) Dass of Princeton, Minnesota; seven granddaughters, Mrs. Marshall (Bonnie) Christiansen, Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Ronald (Shirley) Thompson, Spirit Lake, Iowa; Mrs. Joel (Nancy) Hopkins, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. John (Betty) Borchardt, Plymouth, Iowa; Mrs. John (Susan) Ruhoff, Pittsburg, California; Mrs. Kenneth (Kathy) Wieibbecke, St. Ansgar, Iowa; and Mrs. Tony (Lisa) Braun, St. Cloud, Minnesota, also thirteen great-granchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Burial was at the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
