Glenn F. Sheeley, 75, died Monday, May 14, 2001, in University Hospitals, Iowa City, after a long illness. There will be no visitation. His body was cremated. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Christ the King Lutheran Church, Iowa City by the Rev. David Aanonson. Burial of cremains will be private at the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa. Arrangements by Lensing Funeral Service, Iowa City.

In leu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Glenn Sheeley Memorial Fund.

Glenn was born September 19, 1925 in Winthrop, Iowa, the son of Dean and Lillian Hallinan Sheeley. Raised in Winthrop, he graduated from Winthrop High School. Glenn served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Beth Thompson on June 20, 1948, in LeRoy, Minn. He was a lumber yard manager at several locations for 26 years. He owned and operated the A&W restaurant in Maquoketa from 1965 to 1974 and the Ben Franklin store in Ackley from 1974 to 1993.

He attended Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Glenn was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Ackley, where he had served on the church council and other church committees. He was also a past member of Lions Club and active in Lutheran Brotherhood. Glenn and his wife had lived in Coralville since June of last year.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Beth; four sons, Kent and wife, Joy of Moscow, Iowa; Neal and wife Rhonda of Postville; Douglas and wife Nedra of Adel and Timothy of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Joan Smit and husband Tom of Princeville, Ill.; and Lisa Wilson and husband Scott of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren and two brothers, John Sheeley and wife Kathy and Jerry Sheeley and wife Susan, all of Marion.

Glenn's parents preceded him in death.
