OSAGE, IOWA - Maureen Elizabeth Brooker, age 81, of Osage, died on Monday, April 16, 2012, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Jack McClure, CPPS, officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Maureen was born February 4, 1931, on the family farm east of Osage, to Leo and Charlotte (Kurtz) Comisky. She graduated from Osage High School in 1948. Maureen married Dean Brooker on May 2, 1949, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven. They were the first couple to be married there, doing so before the church pews were installed. Maureen was a school bus driver for Osage Community Schools for 27 years. Maureen and Dean were avid campers. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and hosting "Sunday Bread." Maureen loved her Minnesota Twins and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Maureen is survived by her six children, Denny (Bev) Brooker of Osage, Deke (Bev) Brooker of Buffalo Center, Sandi (Roger) Osheim of Emmons, Minn., Linda (Dave) Wetter of Floyd, Betty Smith of Osage, Nancy (Mark) Milbrandt of Osage; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marlow (Kay) Comisky of Melrose Park, Illinois, Mick Comisky of Osage; three sisters, Leone Shepherd of Norwalk, Kathy (Jerry) Laker of Hull, Georgia, Doke (Clarence) Kruse of Osage; sisters-in-law, Della (Gene) Cordle of Osage, and Janice (Elmer) Schonrock of Winnebago, Minnesota; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don (Joan) Brooker of Santa Maria, California, and Alan (Barbara) Brooker of Eagan, Minnesota; and special friend, Lester Nauman of Floyd.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean in 2006; her parents; a granddaughter, Jackie Johanns in 2002; a grandson, Matt Milbrandt in 2003; sisters, Margaret in infancy, and Mary Larson; brothers, Maurice, Irish and Hites Comisky; sister-in-law, Ann Comisky; and brothers-in-law, Gary Shepherd and Melbourne Larson.
