Brodhead, Green County, Wisconsin.Gordon M. Christensen Sr., 88, of Brodhead, formerly of Janesville, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Woods Crossing at Woods Point, Brodhead. He was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa, on September 12, 1920, the son of Martin and Marguerite (Ringhand) Christensen. Gordon married Dorothy May Spoden on December 11, 1940, in St. Ansgar, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2008. He had been a heavy equipment operator for Mitchell County, Iowa, for 17 years, and in 1956 moved to Janesville, where he worked for the Rock County Highway Department for nearly 30 years.
He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at Big Lake Chetak, near Birchwood, Wiscosnin.
He is survived by two children, Gordon (Sandy) Christensen Jr. of Janesville and Richard (Vickie) Christensen of Brodhead; four grandchildren: Troy (Erin) Christensen Jr., Tami (Ron) Watters, and Dean (Amy) Christensen, all of Janesville, and Anthony Christensen of Brodhead; and four great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Ella, Taylor, and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Etta Christensen and Jeannette Madaris. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, with Rev. Cory Rajek officiating. Entombment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral and Cremation Services.
