Richard Eugene “Dick” Luse 1920-2006

MASON CITY, Iowa - Richard Eugene "Dick" Luse, 86, a winter resident of Arizona City, died peacefully on June 12, 2006 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Old Stone United Methodist Church in Rock Falls, Iowa, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Mr. Luse was born Jan. 3, 1920 in Yankton, S.D., and was a son of George E. and Erma M. (Cole) Luse. He attended school in Mason City. He enlisted in the Navy in 1937 and served two four-year terms. He married Alice Guthrie in 1941 in Mason City. He finished his high school education and graduated from Mason City High School with his youngest son, John, in 1968.

He worked for Northwestern States Portland Cement Company for 38 years and retired in 1978. Then he and Alice spent many years managing High Chaparral RV Park in Arizona City. They were avid campers and charter members of River City Roamers. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed many fishing trips to South Dakota with his family. He loved horses, going to rodeos and watching western TV shows and movies.

In addition to his wife of nearly 65 years, survivors include two sons, Bill Luse of St. Ansgar, Iowa, and John Luse of Osage, Iowa; a sister, Helen Klein of Mason City; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cletis and George Luse; two sisters, Thelma Haxton and Della Bickford; and a daughter, Gloria Dorenkamp, in 2005.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or Old Stone United Methodist Church.
