Funeral services for Gerald "Jay" Wayne Hulshizer, 64, of Northwood, who died November 2, 1999 at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa were held November 5, 1999, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Iowa with the Rev. Paul Holmer and Rev. Dennis Hanson of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, officiating.

Gerald "Jay" Wayne Hulshizer was born October 25, 1935 to Fred (Fritz) and Clara (Olsen) Hulshizer in Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa. Gerald graduated from Carpenter High School in 1953. He served his country during the Korean War from August 12, 1954 until his honorable discharge on July 31, 1957.

Jay married Marlene Jensen on September 20, 1959 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. He worked for Donald Martin Construction in 1957; the Ford garage in Northwood from 1959 to 1964; Worth County Maintenance from 1964 until retirement in 1996. He was a member of VFW Post No. 6779, the Carpenter Community Club, and a member of the First Lutheran Church, Northwood. Jay's hobbies were golfing, fishing, woodworking, gardening, having coffee at the Corner Post and the love of his life, his grandchildren.

Jay is survived by his wife, Marlene of Northwood; one son, Douglas and wife Erin of Zearing; two daughters, Debra Athey and husband Gary of Northwood, and Trisha Lang and husband Doublas of Osage; seven grandchilren; his father, Fred Hulshizer of Northwood; brothers, Eugene of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ronald of St. Ansgar, and Russell of St. Ansgar; mother and father-in-law, Orlo and Della Jensen of St. Ansgar; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and LaDonna Gratias of Waukee, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Scott and his mother, Clara.

Burial was in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, with military honors by VFW Post No. 6779.
