Alvera Jeanette (Gasteiger) Hanson – April 16, 1921 – August 4, 2009
Alvera Jeanette Hanson, 88, of 907 West Congress Street, Nora Springs, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Nora Springs Care Center.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2009, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage, with Pastor Dennis Hanson officiating. Burial will be at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye Avenue, Nora Springs.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa in memory of Alvera.
Alvera was born April 16, 1921, in Plymouth, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Clara (Brown) Gasteiger. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1939, then married Glen Hanson October 15, 1940 at the Mason City Methodist Parsonage, to this union seven children were born. For the majority of her life, Alvera was a housewife, taking care of her children and home. She was also a cook at the Rockford Country Club for fifteen years.
In her spare time Alvera enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing cards and sewing. She also liked to collect cardinal memorabilia. Most of all Alvera loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Alvera had been a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church since 1940.
Alvera is survived by her children Shirley (Jack) Arnett, Golden Shores, AZ, Sharon (Dennis) Field, Nora Springs, Joel (Peggy) Hanson, Osage, Jerald Hanson and Bridget Neilon, Northwood, Kris (Del) Rieman, Newell, Kurt (Linda) Hanson, Nora Springs and Shelley Hanson, Mason City, 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, her sister Alberta Dicken, Pace, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Marie, her husband, her grandson, Troy Alan Esser, her step grandson, Chris Field, her brother and sister-in-law, Harold (Una) Gasteiger, and her brother-in-law Jack Dicken.
