Died at Mason City
After Short IllnessMrs. Sam Powell, 69, died at her home in Mason city last Saturday after a short illness, and a number of Osage relatives and friends went over Tuesday afternoon to be present at the funeral services, conducted by the former pastor of the deceased, the Rev. John D. Kern, of the local Baptist church.
Mrs. Powell, who was a practical nurse, contracted a severe cold, which developed into pneumonia, and a stroke of paralysis complicated her illness.
Laura Matilda Kerkuff, daughter of Philip and Ann Kerkuff, was born at Jersey City, Illinois, February 27, 1867. She was married to Samuel C. Powell, November 11, 1890, at Hampton. While the greater part of her life was spent at Mason City, the family had lived in this vacinity at various times.
Surviving Mrs. Powell are her husband and five children: Raymond Powell, Mason City; Mrs. Helen Warden, Elma, Minnesota; Mrs. Pansy Rodemaker, Edgewood; Mrs. Fleeta Crawford, Mason City, and Mrs. Pearl Armstrong, Osage; also a brother William Kerkuff, Eldora; and a sister, Mrs. Sadie Saxon, Dawson; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Following the funeral services, held at the Randall Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock burial was made in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Among those from Osage attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Rodemaker; Mrs. Lottie Harris and her mother, Mrs. Henry Armstrong.
