Funeral services were held on Monday, April 7, 1986, at Champion Funeral Home in Osage, Iowa, for Victor Jorgensen, 87, of Osage. Rev. J. Nesheim officiated, and burial was in the Osage Cemetery where military rites were conducted by Osage American Legion Post 278.
Mr. Jorgensen died on Thursday, April 3, 1986, at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital.
Victor Jacob Jorgensen was born the son of Rasmus and Julie Jorgensen on November 21, 1898 on a farm near Stacyville, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church at St. Ansgar. The family moved to a farm northeast of Osage and he attended the Pleasant Valley Rural School and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1917. He enrolled at the University of Iowa and then entered the military service where he was made physical director of his company.
In 1919 he and Rose Hiner were united in marriage and the couple moved to Osage in 1920. He was employed by James A. Smith Lumber Co. and the Osage Power and Light Co. In 1924 he attended the American School of Aviation in Chicago. Aviation became his hobby until 1973.
In 1927 he accepted a postion with Waterloo Daily Courier and was employed by them for the following 50 years until his retirement at the age of 80 years old. He was a member of the American Legion for 68 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; a brother, Ralph; a granddaughter, Cynthia; and a great-grandson, Justin.
Survivors include one son, Robert of Osage; a daughter, Phyllis Hopfe of Austin, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Robert Jorgensen of Mason City, Julie Kotewa of Bloomington, Minnesota, Christine McConnell of Cedar Rapids and Sherri Hopfe of St. Paul, Minnesota; six great-grandchildren and two great-grand-step children.
