Funeral services were held on Monday, March 31, 1986, at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar for Doris Elizabeth Coon, 89, of St. Ansgar. Rev. Lloyd Johnson officiated and burial was in St. Ansgar Cemetery. Mrs. Coon died on Friday, March 28, 1986 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.
Doris Elizabeth Coon was born on July 8, 1896 at Mitchell, Iowa, to Lester Lovell and Anna Theresa (Walters) Coon. She was baptized in the Methodist church and attended school in Mitchell. She received her teacher's training at Cedar Falls, Iowa, and taught rural and Mitchell elementary school.
She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, a 4-H leader, member of the community club, Eastern Star, and Farm Bureau.
In 1946, she and her husband opened a restaurant and a produce business in Adams, Minnesota. They returned to St. Ansgar in 1949. In August of 1985, she became a resident of Good Samaritan nursing home.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Martin; one sister, Vera Robertson; a son-in-law, Orville Kulsrud and a granddaughter, Sherri D. Kulsrud.
Survivors include a son, Howard [Madsen] of St. Ansgar; a daughter, Marvel Kulsrud of Brainerd, Minnesota; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Williams of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California; two brothers, Edwin Coon of Marquette, Iowa and Jay Coon of St. Ansgar; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Coon of St. Ansgar and Anna Goplerud of Osage; and many nieces and nephews.
