Halvor Olsen Brenden was born March 21, 1835 at Sor Aurdal, Oppland, Norway to Ole Halvorsen and Olaug Torgrimsdatter (Brenden under Storruste). Birth record found at Norwegian Digital Archives on-line for Sor Aurdal, Oppland, Norway 1825-1840, pg. 130, entry # 30. Baptized June 21, 1835 at same.
Emigrated 1857 to York County, Wisconsin.
Halvor was a soldier who fought in the Civil War. Halvor enlisted in Company E, Wisconsin 15th Infantry Regiment on December 17, 1861. His rank was Private. He survived the War. Mustered out on December 20, 1864. Years later, he and his wife collected a Civil War Pension. (Sources: Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion)
Married Jorand Olsdatter Haugen on October 4, 1866 at York, Green, Wisconsin.

Family found living at York, Green, Wisconsin from 1857 to 1880 census. Owned about 161 acres of land (two - 80 acre parcels) in 1873 in York County, Wisconsin.
Appear in the 1880 census at York, Green, Wisconsin: H.O. Brenden 45, Joren Brenden 31, Ole Brenden 12, Karina Brenden 10, Olina Brenden 7, Thoneta Brenden 3, Christopher Brenden 2, Knut Knutsen 60.
Found owning land in 1890 at Perry, Dane, Wisconsin, about 80 acres.
Found in the 1895, 1900, 1905, 1910 censuses at Rock, Mitchell, IA on a farm:
1895: Halvor Olsen Brenden 61.
1900: Halvor Brenden 65, Jane Brenden 50, Julia Brenden 16, Sophie Brenden 13, Rady Brenden 12, Olga Brenden 8.
1910: Halvor O Branden 75, Gjoren Branden 60, Olga Branden 18.
Halvor Olsen Brenden died April 6, 1912 at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, IA.
