MADISON, IOWA - Murlyn D. "Pete" Duryee, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 14, 2005. He was born January 23, 1941, in Iowa, the son of Dale and Garnet (Decker) Duryee.

Pete graduated from Marble Rock High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Spokane, Wash. He moved to the Racine and Kenosha area after the service. Pete lived in the area for many years until he moved to Madison in 1999.

He married the former Linda Mellum on Aug. 5, 1999. His hobbies included camping, yard work and putzing around. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. His main enjoyment was spending time at their seasonal campsite at Rivers Bend Resort and Campground. This cured his love of being surrounded by nature and in the outdoors. Pete was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 0351.

He is survived by his best friend and soul mate, Linda; two children, Scott (Jackie) Duryee and Windy (fiance, Robert McCoy) Murphy; two step-children, Heather Collins (Allen Mulcahy) and Tracy Coleman; a granddaughter, Rileigh McCoy; an expected grandchild in the near future; his mother; two brothers, Arnold and David Duryee; two sisters, Shirley Pals and Sandra Fear; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father.

A visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, on Sunday, April 17, 2005, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at LULLOFF-PETERSON HOUCK FUNERAL HOME, 126 Diagonal St., Dodgeville, on Monday, April 18, 2005, at noon. Burial will follow at Otter Creek Cemetery in Dodgeville. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Dodgeville on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Murlyn was the son of Dale D. Duryeer and Garnet (Decker) Duryee. His father was born In McIntire, Mitchell Co., Iowa and is buried in the Wayne Cemetery.
