CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — Ralph Merton Houck, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Bickford Cottage.
He was born January 11, 1920, in Indianola, Iowa, the son of William E. and Mabel Wilber Houck. He married Anita C. Weber on May 22, 1950, in Riceville. She died on August 19, 1992.
He graduated from Manly High School in Manly. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Houck was employed with the Iowa State Patrol for 38 years, working in communications, retiring in December 1985.
Survived by: a son, Joe (Joyce) of Waterloo; two granddaughters, Nicole Houck of Coralville and Olivia Houck of Iowa City; and three stepgrandchildren, Jenna (Justin) Brown of Indianola, Michael Staebell of Cedar Falls and Laura (Michael) Steen of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Caitlin Houck; two brothers, William and Donald; and two sisters, Jean Mc Kibben and Nina Tietz.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
