January 27, 1860 -- January 10, 1919
Edward John Kruger was born on January 27, 1860 at Burlington, Wisc. While he was still an infant his parents, William and Henrietta Kruger, came to Iowa, settling on the Kruger homestead south of town, where the family engaged in real pioneer work.
In 1884 Edward was united in marriage with Miss Amelia Reckner, and moved to his present farm where he successfully engaged in farming.
Somewhat over a year ago he retired, moving to Riceville. Suffering as he was, he developed pernicious anemia about a year ago. He sought advice and care of specialists, who extended no hope to him; he gradually grew weaker until last Friday, January 10, at 3 p.m. life ebbed out.
He is mourned by his devoted wife, four sons: Fred and Edward of near Riceville; Emil of Lodi, Calif.; Ray of Lincoln, Iowa; and four daughters: Mrs. Dorothy Rieken of near Riceville; Mrs. Charlotte Pfaffenbach of Watertown, Wisconsin; and Cora and Julia at home. He is also survived and mourned by five brothers, three sisters, and nine grandchildren. His age was fifty-nine years, lacking but seventeen days of his sixtieth birthday.
The funeral was held from the home and then at the Lutheran church last Sunday at 10:30, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Karl Rudolph, the body being interred in the Lutheran Cemetery.
The community has lost, in Mr. Kruger, a substantial citizen and his congregation a staunch supporter.

NOTE: It is believed that he is buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, south of Riceville, Iowa.
