Father Joseph W. Bohr

Death: May 4, 1983A Mass of the Resurrection was held Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church of Riceville for Father Joseph W. Bohr, 82, who passed away Wednesday, May 4 in a New Hampton hospital.
Officiates of the Mass included the Most Reverend Francis J. Dunn; Reverend Gregory Hemesath, Reverend John Hemesath and Reverend Herbert L. Tegeler. Attending the services were several area priests.
Joseph W. Bohr was born August 2, 1900, the son of Anton and Elizabeth Hemesath Bohr. Hew was a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque and was ordained on June 10, 1929, and then served in the Dioceses of Davenport for two years.
He then served in parishes in Bellevue, Colesburg, Lamont, Ionia and Stacyville, prior to coming to Riceville on June 9, 1960 where he served the Immaculate Conception parish until his retirement on July 12, 1977.
Father Bohr then became a resident of Colonial Manor in Elma in 1978, after living with a nephew in Waterloo. In Colonial Manor, he served as Chaplain.
On Sunday, June 10, 1979, father Bohr observed his Golden Jubilee into priesthood with a dinner, mass and open house taking place at Colonial Manor.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Riceville with the Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
