BYRNES, Claire James
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 6, 1987, for Claire James Byrnes, 68, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, formerly of the New haven and Riceville areas. Mr. Byrnes died on Saturday, January 3, 1987 in Ponca City. A prayer service was held on Saturday, January 10, 1987 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Haven, with Rev. J. Carpenter officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Church Cemetery, New haven.
He was born on July 7, 1918 in Riceville, to Angelo and Grace (Erwin) Byrnes. He attended Riceville schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1934. Mr. Byrnes served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received a degree in civil engineering from the Univeristy of Iowa in 1949. Mr. Byrnes was employed as chief of survey for Conoco Oil Co. until retirement in 1983.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Emrich and Ruth Dunlay, both of Waterloo; and one brother, Dean of Riceville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
