Frank J. Nelson was born at Balum, Province of Sievig, Denmark, December 20, 1852. At the early age of seventeen years, he emigrated to the United States, staying seven years in the state of Nevada, where his mother joined him, only to die a few days after her arrival.
In 1878 he returned to Denmark, where he was united in marriage to Louisa Lauretta Quitzan. In March of 1879, Mr. Nelson and his bride came to Iowa, settling northeast of St. Ansgar, where they lived for many years. In 1899 he sold that farm and purchased a larger farm, five miles north of St. Ansgar, near the Stacyville Junction. He lived here until 1914, when he retired from active farming and moved to St. Ansgar, where he resided until his death, which occurred, after much suffering, on the morning of June 10, 1928.
Always honest and industrious, he enjoyed the respect and confidence of his fellowmen. His aim in life was unselfish service to his family and friends.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Louisa Nelson, and five children; Mrs. J.P. Hansen of Otranto, Iowa; Mr. Andrew Nelson of Cresco, Iowa; Mrs. Lena E. Johnson of St. Ansgar, Iowa; Mr. Carl H. Nelson and Mrs. Charles Libersky, both living north of St. Ansgar; also ten grandchildren, and a host of friends.
Grateful for relief from his suffering and at peace with God, he passed peacefully away at his home in St. Ansgar, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 21 days.
