Mrs. Karen Block Nissen was born in the town of Dostaup, in the province of Schlesvig, Denmark, on the 19th of October, 1834, and died at her home in Osage, Iowa, on August 13th, 1925.
The 12th of December, 1854, she was united in marriage to Thomas Nissen. To this union three children were born who, together with her husband, have preceded her in death, and also one granddaughter, Wilhelmina Nissen, who died about ten years ago.
They resided in Denmark until the spring of 1869, when they came to America and settled at St. Ansgar, living one year in the town and then moving onto their farm east of St. Ansgar, where they lived until the death of Mr. Nissen in the autumn of 1886, at which time Mrs. Nissen came to Osage where she has resided ever since.
Mrs. Nissen was a devoted wife and mother while her family was living and, being of a quiet, kindly and unassuming nature, she loved her home and delighted in having her friends and neighbors visit her there. She was a life-long member of the Lutheran church, always contributing liberally to its cause and to many other worthy causes.
There are no immediate relatives living near here with the exception of Mrs. Marie Klindt Wallace and her brother, Chris Klindt, residing on a farm near there.
