PHILIP MEINZER PASSES AWAY

Philip Meinzer was born the 8th of January, 1842, in Baden, Germany. When six years of age he came to this country with his parents, who made their home in Racine, Wis. In the year 1862 he enlisted in the 22nd Regt. of Wisc. Inf. and served to the end of the Civil War under General Sherman. In 1865 he was married to Albertine Priebe.

Losing his beloved wife, he found a helpmate in Marie Jahn, who preceded him in death in 1913. For the last fifty years he resided in Howard County, Iowa, where he was one of our pioneers. Four years ago he retired from his farm, moving to Riceville.

On the 30th of March he suffered a severe attack of appendicitis. He was immediately moved to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lottie Seavy, where he enjoyed the most skillful and loving care. An operation which finally was deemed necessary brought him no alleviation and he gradually grew weaker, until his death occurred last Saturday afternoon, May 18, 1918.

The following children mourn their bereavement: Philipp Jr., Harvey, Frank and George and Mrs. Lottie Seavy. His age was 76 years, 4 months and 10 days.

Last Monday afternoon the funeral services took place in the Lutheran church, Rev. Karl Rudolph officiating. All members of the local G. A. R. Post as well as a large number of friends were in attendance.
