Rufus Seavy was born in Jo Davis County, Illinois, December 27, 1847, where he lived until 1883, when he moved to Howard County, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Irene Reynolds, December 4, 1867. Thirteen children were born to this union, two of whom preceded him to the Great Beyond. December 10, 1896, he lost his beloved wife, leaving him with a large family to children, several of whom were small and these he reared to maturity, doing his duty according to his best judgment.

He was a man of high principle, a good friend in prosperity or adversity and a good neighbor and citizen. Some years ago he was elected as a member of the board of supervisors of the county, serving in that capacity seven years. He was chairman of this board for four years. Mr. Seavy was a man of exceptional business ability. His judgment on question pertaining to the expenditures of county funds was never questioned. He was a man of highest integrity and merited the confidence of the people of his county and community. He was a member of the Masonic Order and belonged to Relief Lodge No. 211 A. F. & A. M.

At the age of 68 years, 5 months, and 25 days, Mr. Seavy passed away leaving to mourn his loss eleven children, thirty-eight grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

The funeral was held at his home under the auspices of the Masonic Order, June 23, 1916, interment being made at Riverside Cemetery.
