Funeral services were conducted for Syver O. Nelson last Friday afternoon at 1:45 at the home and at 2:00 o'clock at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. O.A. Langehough in charge. Interment was in the First Lutheran cemetery.
Syver O. Nelson, son of Ole and Sere Nelson, was born June 16, 1868 on a farm near Austin, Minn. He was baptized at Red Oak Grove and was confirmed at the same church on June 21, 1884. At the age of 16 years he came to St. Ansgar to make his home.
On May 21, 1894 he was united in marriage to Gunda Nelson. To this union seven children were born. After making their home for seventeen years in St. Ansgar they moved to their farm north of town where they lived for 29 years. April 6, 1940 they retired from the farm and returned to St. Ansgar where the deceased passed away on April 22 of a heart attack at the age of 72 years, 10 months and six days.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd who died in 1928. He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, one sister, Mrs. Ben Holland of St. Paul and six children: Ernest of St. Ansgar, Alvin of Independence, Mrs. John Gray of Charles City, Mrs. Harrie Hanson of Riceville, Stanley of Northwood, Mrs. Truman Ask of McIntire; also 12 grandchildren and a host of friends.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Sophia Robertson, Miss Nellie Knutson of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Holland, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Ulland and John of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson and Ernest Anderson of Austin; Mrs. Anderson of Blooming Prairie; Mr. and Mrs. N. Nelson; Mrs. Floyd Nask, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tidemonson, Lake Mills, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. John Gray and family of Charles City; Mrs. Nellie Narveson and Ruth, Mrs. Carl Knutson of Albert Lea.
