THORSTEIN 'TOM' WAMSTAD

MASON CITY, IOWA - Thorstein ”Tom” Wamstad, 93, died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. Interment will be at Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church Wednesday. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, is in charge of the arrangements.

Tom was born in Totin, Norway, on March 12, 1907, the son of Thorwald and Petra Wamstad.

On May 28, 1925, he came to the United States where he first worked as a hired man in the Dakotas and then did trucking. He eventually ended up in Iowa.

On February 20, 1935, he married Esther Nelson. The couple farmed near Nora Springs for 17 years then moved to a farm near Lyle, Minn. They farmed there until retiring in 1978 when they moved to Osage. He later sold his home in Osage and moved to Mason City where he lived until his death.

Thorstein is survived by two sisters-in-law, Laura Witt of Osage and Anita Nelson of Mason City; a special friend, Marian Holt of Clear Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Esther, in 1985.
