LAST RITES FOR AUGUST PERAU HELD SATURDAY AT TOETERVILLE
Funeral services for August Perau were held Saturday afternoon at the home at 1:30 and at St. Peter’s Lutheran church at Toeterville at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. C. Bosholm officiating.
August Otto Bernard Perau, youngest son of William and Emma Perau, was born on a farm in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, on August 1st, 1902. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on August 17, 1902, by the Rev. George Landgrebe, pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He was a true and faithful member of that church until death.
When he was seven years of age he moved with his parents to Toeterville where he entered German School and Public School, finishing the eighth grade. After completing his bible instruction he was confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 16, 1916, by the Rev. E. M. Lehmann.
His early manhood was spent in and around Toeterville, working at various trades, later taking a course in business training at Mankato Business College. After the death of his brother George in 1921 he went to Dakota to assist at farm work after which he entered Fort Snelling Military Camp where he was in training until 1924. He returned to Toeterville, working in various fields of occupation.
On December 13, 1927, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Malcomson by the Rev. John R. Parks of LeRoy. They lived on the home farm near Lyle for four years, moving to LeRoy, where they lived for two years. In February, 1934, with his family he returned to Toeterville where he became manager of the Lumber Company, which position he held until his death.
He was a young Christian man of fine character, his life a record of kindliness, uprightness, industry, honesty and devotion to his home and church. In his dealings with others he was honest and just. He was a devoted husband and an affectionate father, his family was always foremost in his thoughts. In his daily efforts he showed that he was striving to do his utmost to make them happy and contented.
He had not been in the best of health for several years. To benefit this condition he went to Rochester where he submitted to an operation on May 1st at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was rapidly recovering when his family and other relatives called to see him and was always happy and counting days until his return home. On May 13th at 8:45 he was suddenly called home to the Heavenly Father, at age of 37 years, eight months and 13 days. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother George and an infant sister.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, seven children, Douglas, Joan, Franklin, Ruth, Shirley, Sharon and infant daughter; also his aged mother, three brothers, Louis, Albert and Willie; two sisters, Ella Marie Brede and Mrs. Hulda Decklever; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Perau, widow of George Perau, five nephews and four nieces and many other relatives and a host of friends.
May God sustain and comfort the bereaved and guide, guard and direct them.
Pallbearers were Rudolph Nitardy August Grube, Martin Schroeder, Fred Langrock, John Patterson Jr, and Frederick Bruggemann.
The honorary pallbearers were R. H. Dickman, Waerloo; L. F. Menges, Garrison, Iowa; O. F. Weber, Stacyville, Iowa; J. J. Kopp, Buffalo Center; J. C. Barry Garwin; Wm. Stewart, Gladbrook, Iowa; LeRoy Lovstad, Rudd, Iowa; G. E. Duffy, Voorhis, Iowa; Lyle Baily, Zearing, Iowa; Frank Kladvio, Traer, Iowa; E. R. Gaston, Buckeye, Iowa; and T. O. Mathison, Elmore, Minnesota.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Miss Ione Malcomson, Santa Barbara, California; Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Meinecke, Fargo, N. D.; Mr. and Mrs. August Meineke; Franklin Meinecke; and Mrs. Archie Schubert all of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Alan Meinecke of Austin, Minn.; Philip Gugel of Kent, Minn.; Kermit Meinecke, Davenport, N. D.; Mrs. W. Runge; Mrs. George Malcomson; Mr. and Mrs. Aldean Malcomson; Mr. and Mrs. H. Malcomson; Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Malcomson; Mr. and Mrsl Alvin Malcomson; and Mrs. Floy Markle and daughter, all of Leroy, Minn.; and relatives from Osage, Lyle and St. Ansgar.
