Mary Violet Leraaen, 95, of St. Ansgar, died June 12, 2010 at St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Society, St. Ansgar, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 18 at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar with Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School Street, St. Ansgar.

Mary Violet Warner Leraaen was born on June 27, 1914, the first of seven children to Ross and Mabel Warner in Fingal, North Dakota. She grew up on a farm in the area, attended country school in Cass County and graduated from high school in May, 1934. She died peacefully on June 12, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Violet was united in marriage to Halvor Leraaen on November 11, 1945 in Lucca, North Dakota and they were married nearly 51 years. They lived in St. Ansgar their entire married life where Halvor owned and operated the family shoe repair business begun by his father. Violet helped him often, raised their two daughters and took an active role of service in their church. She and Halvor served as custodians of First Lutheran Church Parish Center for many years. Violet began work at the Good Samaritan Center in October of 1967 and was there until she retired in October of 1982.

Violet was a member of First Lutheran Church where she taught children's Sunday School and Vacation Bible School in her early years. She actively participated in Ladies Aid, led her Circle Bible Studies and made countless quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

Violet is survived by her daughters, June (Paul) Ulring of Columbus, OH and Mary Kay (Bill) Mark of Faribault, Minnesota; grandchildren Michael (Katie) Ulring and sons, Jaedon and Karson of Columbus, Nathan (Erika) Ulring of San Diego, California, Laura Ulring of Chicago, Illinois, Sonja (Bill) Shoemaker and son, Tristan of Fullerton, California, Jada (Bill) Affentranger and children, Allen, Olivia, Jackie and Elizabeth of Faribault, Angela (Keith) Altamirano and children, Keith and Belen of Vancouver, Washington; her sister, Ilene Pendergraft of Youngstown, Florida and her brother, Virgil Warner of Fingal, North Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

Violet was beloved by her family and friends. Blessed be her memory and legacy of faith, love and service to us all.

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Violet Leraaen, 95, of St. Ansgar died on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Home.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, June 18, at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
