RICEVILLE, IOWA - Robert Kesten, 73, of Riceville, passed away Friday (July 15, 2011) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 20 at the Donald Johnston gymnasium at the Riceville Community High School with the Rev. Pam Kranzler officiating. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Military Honors will be conducted by the Roy Gue Post 244 of the American Legion. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville.
Robert Arthur Kesten, son of Arthur and Maire Bemus Kesten, was born on December 19, 1937, in Riceville. Bob grew up in McIntire, graduating in 1955. In 1960 he entered the Army for two years. He was united in marriage to Nancy Watson on Oct. 2, 1965. Joining them was Chad in 1967; he passed away in 1969.
Bob worked at White Farm Equipment in Charles City and Moore Wallace of North America in Osage. He was involved with Avenue of the Flags since 1981, gun safety, basketball scorekeeper, Cub Scout leader, School Board and enjoyed golf and school activities.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, of Riceville; a son, Jason, and his wife Nicole and their children, Jayden, Justin, Tobias and Isaiah of Mason City; a daughter, Kendra, and her husband Pat Franzen of Luana, and their children Marlene and Reilly; brother-in-law, Don Boyer of Clear Lake; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Chad Marshall Kesten and one sister, Marvene Boyer.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made toward play equipment for the Riceville City Park.
