TOBIAS THOMPSON

Tobias Thompson, one of the first children to be christened in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Meroa, passed away August 1, 1945, at his home in Bode, Iowa.

Tobias Thompson, son of Thore and Sarah Nubson Thompson, was born in 1871 near Meroa.

He received his education in Buena Vista county, later attending Luther College and Northwestern Normal college at LeMars.

He was in the hardware business in Sioux Rapids for 16 years. He then traveled for the Moline Plow Co. in the state of Utah for 14 years, retiring to Pasadena, California.

He was married in 1898 to Julia Jacobson of Sioux Rapids. She died in 1929. In 1931 he was married to Mrs. Viola Granseth. To this union one son, Elwood, was born in 1933.

Mr. Thompson served as mayor of Bode for several terms. He was interested in agricultural pursuits, and made frequent trips to his farms near Sioux Rapids. He also spent much time with his hobby of refinishing and fashioning black walnut furniture.

He is survived by his wife and son, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held in Bode and Sioux Rapids, Saturday, August 4, 1945.
