C. R. Champion,
Local Merchant Since 1919
Dies; Service Held Here Sunday

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Osage's oldest businessman, C. R. Champion, 79, who died Wednesday at his home here. Mr. Champion had been afflicted with a heart condition about two years, and had been hospitalized in Rochester at various times.

The Rev Homer Doak, pastor of the Congregational church in Osage, was assisted in the service by the Rev. Myron Malone, in services at the Champion Funeral Home. Burial was in the Osage cemetery.

Clayton Renolds Champion was born on October 29, 1879 in Osage, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Champion. He was married to Golda Mildred Hudson on June 28, 1906.

A lifetime resident of Osage, Mr. Champion began his career at the age of 13 years when he left school to work in a furniture store and mortuary here. In 1906 he received his own embalmer's license, and in 1919 he bought his own business, the Champion Furniture store and Funeral Parlors, which is now C.R. Champion and Sons.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Clayton Herbert, who died in 1924 at the age of three years; two brothers, Bruce and Charles; and two sisters, Mary L. Champion and Mrs. Anna Fonda.

He is survived by his wife, Golda, his two sons, Maurice K. and Lawrence L., and one daughter, Mrs. Harvey Norby, all of Osage. Four grandchildren, one brother, Harold C. Champion of Milwaukee, and a sister Mrs. Roy Dalziel of Spokane, Washington, also survive.

Mr. Champion was a member of the Congregational church in Osage, and of the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges.
