OSAGE, IOWA - Richard R. Sonberg, 77, of Osage died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Faith Home in Osage.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser and Msgr. John Hemann officiating.

Following the funeral Mass, cremation will take place with inurnment at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home with a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday until 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

Richard was born on August 12, 1933, on the family farm near St. Ansgar, the son of Ralph and Vera (Tesch) Sonberg. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1951. Richard attended Wisconsin Technical School in La Crosse, Wis.

He was united in marriage to Annette Michels on Nov. 24, 1953, at Sacred Heart Church in Osage. Richard farmed and also operated a construction company. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Richard enjoyed outdoor life, dancing at polka fests in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Texas, playing cards, working in his shop, gardening and assisting with the children's farming operations.

Richard is survived by his wife, Annette Sonberg of Osage; his children, James (Donna) Sonberg of Osage, Ron (Sherri) Sonberg of Charles City, Jean (Ron) Valasek of Osage, Larry (Sheila) Sonberg of Morrison, Illinois, Connie (Vince) Morische of Osage; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Vance of Osage, Marie Mullenbach of Tucson, Ariz., Alice Chezik of Osage; and one brother, Clifton (Eileen) Sonberg of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Adrian Sonberg.
