SHERWIN A. KLEINWORT FUNERAL HELD HERE THURSDAY, MARCH 30
Funeral services for Sherwin A. Kleinwort, 78, of St. Ansgar, who died at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital on March 27, 1972, were held March 30 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don Comnick officiating.
Sherwin A. Kleinwort was born February 3, 1894 on a farm near Carpenter, the son of Fred and Emma (Sefert) Kleinwort. He attended schools in Carpenter, St. Ansgar and Osage, and Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
February 4, 1915 he was united in marriage to Irma Virginia Lubiens. They farmed near Carpenter for 15 years. In 1930 he traded his farm for the old water powered mill on the Cedar river at St. Ansgar. Under his ownership the old flour mill was converted to manufacture of livestock feeds. The business continued to grow, and in 1945 he took his son, Robert into partnership with him. He sold his share of the operation to his son in 1962, but until his death was actively interested in the business.
Mr. Kleinwort was on the local school board for many years, serving as its president his last term in office. As a young man he was an enthusiastic sportsman, playing baseball, football and basketball. He maintained an interest in sports by acting as timekeeper and tickettaker after his days of active participation in team sports were over. Hunting, fishing, trapshooting and bowling were long time interests as were boating and golf.
He was an aedent conservationist, serving on the County Conservation board for many years. He was instrumental in establishing Halvorson Park, and watched its increasing use with much satisfaction.
Mr. Kleinwort was preceded in death by his wife, Irma. He is survived by his children, Mrs. Otto H. (Irma) Tesch, Mrs. Oliver A. (Shirley) Fossey, and son, Robert all of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Gladys K. Bowles of Athens, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Layden S. (Charlotte) Wentworth of Marble Rock; two nephews; 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Burial was in Newburg township cemetery near Carpenter with Rev. Comnick in charge of committal services.
