RICEVILLE, IOWA — Funeral services for B. N. Hendricks, 65, pioneer attorney and banker here, will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence in Riceville. Judge A. B. Lovejoy of Waterloo, an intimate friend of Mr. Hendricks, will speak at the services as a representative of the bar. Masonic rites will also be held.
Mr. Hendricks, who died at 9:10 o'clock Sunday morning, had been in poor health for some time. Not long ago he submitted to an operation at Waterloo for carbuncles and recovered some and had been on a trip north. On his return he became ill. He succumbed to uremic poisoning.
Mr. Hendricks was born July 25, 1871. He was graduated from the State University of Iowa with, a degree of bachelor of science in 1894 and received his law degree in 1895 He was elected life secretary of the class of 1895 at the fortieth anniversary in 1935. He was a member of the first debating team at the University of Iowa, participating in an argument with a University of Minnesota team.
Funder of Sigma Nu fraternity in 1893 at Iowa university, he was its first charter member. He was also a member of Delta Sigma Rho.
Mr. Hendricks practiced law in Howard and Mitchell counties and for many years at Riceville. At the time of his death he was president of the Mitchell county bar association. He was a member of the city council, board of education and had; been president of the First National bank of Riceville for the past 22 years.
Surviving are his wife, to whom he was married Sept. 23, 1896; a son, D. K. Hendricks, attorney at Riceville; a daughter, Miss Alice Hendricks of Minneapolis; a sister, Mrs. Ruby St. John of Riceville, and two aunts, Julia Ellingsen of Saude and Hanna Huffland of Protivin.
Mr. Hendricks took a great interest in youth and was interested in seeing many young people succeed in their ambitions to obtain higher educations. To this end he made and arranged several loans for them to attend school.

Bert N. Hendricks, the well-known Riceville attorney, passed away Sunday morning at 9:10 o'clock at his home in Riceville.
Mr. hendricks had been in poor health for some time, and not long ago was in Waterloo for an operation for carbuncles. He recovered somewhat, and went on a rest trip north, but on his return home became ill, death followed from uremic poisoning.
Mr. Hendricks was born July 25, 1871, and in 1894 was graduated from the State University of Iowa. A year later he received his degree in law. At the fortieth anniversary if his law class in 1935 he was elected life secretary of the class. He was a member of the university's first debate team, participating in an argument with a team from the University of Minnesota. He was the founder of Sigma Nu fraternity at Iowa City, its first charter member. He was also a member of Delta Sigma Rho.
Mr. Hendricks practiced law in Mitchell and Howard counties and won wide recognition as an able analyst of business and legal problems. At the time of his death he was president of the Mitchell county bar association. He was a member of the Riceville city council, the board of education, and had been president of the First national Bank of Riceville, for the past 22 years.
Surviving are his wife, to whom he was married September 23, 1896; a son, D.K. Hendricks, attorney at Riceville; a daughter, Miss Ailee Hendricks, Minneapolis; a sister, Mrs. Ruby St. John, Riceville, and two aunts, Julia Ellingsen, Saude, and Hanna Huffland, Protovin.
Mr. Hendricks leaves behind him a life of great usefulness to his community.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the resident in Riceville, with all Mitchell county attorneys attending in a body. Judge A.B. Lovejoy, a lifelong friend, spoke at the services as a representative of the bar, and Masonic rites were also held.
