CHRISTIAN JENSON
AND VERN CHRISTIAN JENSON DIE

---------------------------------------------

CHRISTIAN JENSON DIES;
DOUBLE FUNERAL

A double funeral is an uncommon occurrence in this section, but one of grandfather and his first grandson possibly never occurred in this section before. In last week's paper we noted the death of the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. James Jenson. After the paper had gone to press, Mr. Jenson too suddenly passed away of heart failure. The funeral of the babe which was to have been held Thursday was postponed until Saturday and the funerals of both were conducted at the U.N.L. church by Rev. Waldeland at the same time.

Christian Jenson was born at GarPrestergjeld, Hedemarken, Norway, August 13, 1849, and died at St. Ansgar, Iowa, February 13, 1917, being therefore 67 years, 6 months and 27 days of age. He grew to manhood at his native home, and came to America at the age of 24 years, coming direct to St. Ansgar where he arrived July 11, 1873. He went to the home of Andrew Erickson who was an old neighbor at the old home in Norway, and there he made his home until the time of his marriage. Soon after he came here he learned the carpenters trade, and worked with the Havig's for some time. Later, however, he decided to learn the masons trade, which he did at Dsnesbor, Minn., in 1880. January 18, 1882 he was married to Miss Gertrude Kittleson. This union was blessed with two children, James and Verna Jenson, who with their widowed mother mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and father.

Immediately after marriage Mr. Jenson built a residence in St. Ansgar and this had been their home until they built their new residence two years ago. For a period of 35 years he has worked at his trade as mason, being one of the most popular and best known in this part of the country. He was always pleasant and agreeable to work with and did his work well.

January 4th, Mr. Jenson was taken sick with the grippe and some of the time was very sick. However it was thought that he was improving, and on the morning of his death ate his breakfast as usual. However during the forenoon he was suddenly taken worse and passed away in a short time at 10:15 of heart failure.

It was only the day before that his only grandson Vern Christian Jenson the only child of his son James died at the age of seven days of convulsions following indigestion and colic. Altho it had seemed a healthy child, he was not destined to remain long in this world.

The funeral was held at the U.N.L. church Saturday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M.E. Waldeland and was largely attended in spite of the unfavorable weather.

Vern Christian Jenson was born February 6, 1917 and died February 13, 1917
