Death of a Former Resident
A recent issue of the Artesian, South Dakota, Commonwealth, contains a notice of the death of Mrs. Anna Loring, the youngest daughter of L. W. Westfall, who was one of Mitchell County's earliest settlers, locating at Orchard in 1857. The Commonwealth says:
A few weeks ago the community was startled by the announcement that Mrs. Loring had been smitten with an illness from which there was no hope of recovery, and for the past few weeks while she was slowly passing away, a deep sadness pervaded our midst.
It was on Friday, December 11, at 6 o'clock in the morning, that the final summons came and called her from her earthly home to the home which is above.
The funeral service was held at the home and was conducted by Pastor R. A. Brough. The following brief and simple sketch which he gave of the life which has just passed away from our midst, we give in full:
"Anna Westfall was born on October 8, 1864, at Orchard, Iowa. Here she spent her childhood and girlhood days, and in June, 1885, moved with her parents to Dakota. On December 5, 1888, she was united in marriage to D.F. M. Loring, and was permitted to enjoy fifteen years of happy wedlock.
On December 11, at 6 a.m. by the providence of God she was removed from our midst.
She left behind a husband, a daughter, a father, a mother, a sister, a brother, and a host of friends whose heartfelt sympathy goes out most tenderly to this bereaved family."
