O. E. Mapes Died In Rochester

Had Been In Failing Health Past
Three Years-Buried in Mitchell
Cemetery Saturday

"Gene" Mapes, who has been a resident of Mitchell county since 1880, passed away Wednesday afternon of last week, after several years of patient suffering and the community has thus lost a man of upright character, one of who was respected by all who knew him.

Oliver Eugene Mapes was born in Erie county, New York, on November 25, 1855. He lived in New York until 1880, then coming to Mitchell county, Iowa, where he has since resided, the past 38 years being spent in Osage.

In 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Dimick, who died May 22, 1906. On May 18, 1910, he married Miss Katherine Kildee. To this union two chidren were born: Katheryn, aged 11 years, and Frances, aged five years.

For the past three years he has been in good health and passed away November 14, 1923, at the Colonial hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, after an illness of five weeks. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Smith and the remains were taken to Mitchell for interment.
