LT. JAMES DREW IS VICTIM IN LOUISIANA
Osage – Lt. James Drew, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Drew was killed Monday on a routine information flight near Barksdale Field, Louisiana. Funeral services are pending word from his wife who has been with him, near Braksdale Field, and his brother, Cpl. Joe, Drew, Camp Polk, La.
James Drew was born in Osage, January 25, 1918, attended the public schools in Osage, being graduated from Osage high school. He attended Luther College and on April 5, 1942, entered the armed service. He was assigned to the medical corps, Camp Robinson, Ark.
He was chosen to be an aviation cadet January 1, 1943, receiving his training in various fields in Texas. He was graduated from Ellington Field, November 5, 1943, and was commissioned a 1st lieutenant. He received special training as a pilot on a B-26, at Dodge City, Kansas, and at Boise, Idaho.
On June 21, 1942, he was married to Delores Sindelar, Austin, Minnesota, who has been with him the greater part of the time since their marriage. They have one child, Pamela, born in 1944.
Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Drew, and 2 brothers, Cpl. Joe, Camp Polk, La., and Cpl. R. Metz Drew, somewhere in France.

Lt. James Drew
Loses Life in Plane Explosion
Lt. James Drew, 26, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Drew of Osage, was killed Monday morning about 10 o'clock at Barkesdale Field, Louisiana, when the B-26 bomber which he was flying exploded in the air. The plane was flying in formation and was on a routine flight. All of the crew was lost.
News of the tragedy was telephoned his parents Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. by the chaplain at Barkesdale Field, James' brother, Cpl. Joe Drew, stationed at Camp Polk, Louisiana, near Barkesdale, accompanied the dead flyer's widow and 3 month old daughter, Pamela, to Osage.
Funeral services is to be held this afternoon, Thursday, at the Congregational Church in charge of the Reverend C. B. Whitehead, pastor of the Episcopal Church of Mason City, assisted by the reverend Stiles Lessly. A military escort accompanied the body to Osage.
James Drew was born January 25, 1918, in Osage, was reared here and graduated from Osage High School and attended Luther College. He entered the service on April 25, 1942, and was in the First Medical Corps at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. In January, 1943, he became an aviation cadet and was trained at several fields in Texas.
He was graduated at Ellington Field, Texas, November 3, 1943, and received his commission as a lieutenant. Then he was sent to Dodge City, Kansas, where he took his B-26 bomber training. He trained for 8 months at Boise, Idaho, and was then sent to Barkesdale Field.
Lieutenant Drew's marriage to Dolores Sindelar of Austin, Minnesota took place June 21, 1942. Their daughter was born while they were en route to Osage on a leave about three months ago. Mrs. Drew and Pamela were living at Shreveport, Louisiana, near the flying field.
Surviving besides his wife and small daughter, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Drew, of Osage; and two brothers, Cpl Metz Drew, who is serving in France, and Cpl. Joe Drew.
