TWO EDITORS PASS

I have been double-saddened by the news this week about the death of two of my very good editorial brethren---Clint Hill of Osage and R. V. Lucas of Oelwein.
Both have been distinguished in their fields, Mr. Hill in the country weekly area, and Mr. Lucas in the small city daily area.

Few weekly editors in Iowa have been more widely quoted than Clint Hill. Some of his editorials have made the rounds not only in Iowa but throughout the nation.

Clint’s editorial products were unique in one respect. All of them were composed by him as he sat at the keyboard of a linotype.

Another distinguishing mark borne by Clint Hill as a journalist was his capacity for seeing the other fellow’s point of view. He loved to chide his editorial brethren (including us) when they tried to cut off debate on a debatable question.

Both in his editorials and in his public addresses, Clint Hill exhibited a delicious sense of humor. Never would he permit himself to take life too seriously.

His passing leaves a large void in the ranks of North Iowa editors. Neither he nor his works will be forgotten.
