OSAGE WOMAN DIES AT AGE 92
Osage, Ia. – Funeral rites will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Champion Funeral Home for Mrs. Ida Spicer, 92, who died Thursday evening at the Cleveland hotel.
In charge of the Rites will be Rev. Sterling Baldwin, of West Union. Burial will be in Osage Cemetery.
Deceased was born Ida Cleveland to Rhodes and Nancy Cleveland at Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, August 21, 1857. The family came to Charles City, Iowa, in 1865, and her parents operated a hotel, coming to Osage in 1877. She was married to Ernest Spicer in 1880. The couple lived at LaCrosse, Wisconsin until 1939, when the husband died.
Mrs. Spicer came to Osage in 1941, to establish her home with her sister.
She had been afflicted with failing eyesight and last month fell and fractured her hip.
Survivors include her only sister, Miss Sarah Cleveland, Osage; a nephew, Mortimer B. Cleveland, Waterloo, and a niece, Mrs. Ruth Hayward, Omaha, Nebraska.

WERE HELD MAY 7
Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Spicer, 91, were held Saturday afternoon, May 7, at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage. Burial was made in the Osage cemetery. The Rev. Sterling Baldwin of West Union officiated. Mrs. Spicer died Thursday evening, May 5, at the Cleveland hotel, where she made her home.
Ida Ruth Cleveland, daughter of Rhodes M. and Nancy Flint Cleveland, was born on August 21, 1857, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. The family moved to Chickasaw county, Iowa, in 1865. They moved to Charles City in 1876 and came to Osage the following year.
She and Ernest L. Spicer were married in Osage on August 26, 1880. They went to LaCrosse, Wisconsin, to make their home, where he was engaged in job printing. Mr. Spicer died in September, 1939.
Because of failing sight, Mrs. Spicer broke up her home in the fall of 1941 and came to Osage to make her home with her sister, Miss Sarah Cleveland, at the Cleveland hotel.
She joined the Universalist church in LaCrosse in early life and maintained her membership in it until it closed. Her membership was then transferred to the Congregational church in LaCrosse.
Mrs. Spicer fell about four weeks ago, and fractured her hip.
Surviving are her sister, Miss Cleveland; one nephew and one niece. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.
