MRS. EVA CHURCH RITES ARE HELD
FORMER OSAGE WOMAN DIES IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Osage – Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Eva C. Church, 85, who died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Rogers, Watertown, S. Dakota. Services were in charge of Doctor Frank Court, Waterloo, former Osage Methodist pastor, and the Rev. Glen Hartong. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

As Eva Jones, she was born in Cook County, Illinois, and spent her girlhood there. She was married to Charles church in 1881.

Fifteen years later they moved to Linn County, coming to Osage to make their home in 1914. They resided here until Mr. Church’s death in 1926, after which Mrs. Church has resided with her children.

Surviving are five children; Mrs. Rogers; Ray Church, Orchard; Guy Church of Fullerton, California; Leo Church of Osage; and Mrs. Glen Arnold, Springville. There are 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

According to the 1925 Iowa Census, her parents were James Jones and Lucy Underwood. She married Charles Church, the son of Miles Church and Catherine (Hendricks) Church.

OLD RESIDENTS
MITCHELL COUNTY

Death this week claimed the lives of three present and former residents of Mitchell county, all in advanced age. George Walter, of Mitchell, Lawrence Soroos of Osage and Mrs. Eva Church, resident of this county until 1926, who died at Watertown, South Dakota.

EVA CHURCH--

Mrs. Eva C. Church died Sunday, April 4, 1943, at 4:00 a.m. at watertown, South Dakota, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.M. Rogers, where she had been living since September 8. She had been in failing health for the past five months and failed rapidly the last two weeks till the end which came peacefully at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 8 days.

She was born near Elgin, Illinois, on January 26, 1858. On April 28, 1881, she was married to Charles J. Church at Barrington, Illinois. Five children came to this home, all of whom survive: Mrs. Clara M. Rogers, Watertown, South Dakota, Ray D. Church, Orchard, Iowa, Guy J. Church, Fullerton, California, Leo C. Church, Osage, and Eva L. Arnold, Springville, Iowa. There are also eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One grandchild, Eva Jane Rogers preceded her in death.

In 1895 the family moved to Iowa where they bought a farm near Cedar Rapids. In 1908 they retired from the farm and moved to Marion, where they lived until 1913. At that time they came to Osage, where Mr. Church died on September 21, 1926. Since that time Mrs. Church has made her home with three of her children.

She was a member of the Methodist church, where she worked for many years in the Sunday school and Missionary society.

Service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Shelledy funeral home. Interment was made in the Osage Cemetery.
