DONALD W. LATHROP

OSAGE, IOWA - Donald W. Lathrop, 84, of Osage, died Sunday, January 30, 2000, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Don was born June 24, 1915, on a farm near Guthrie Center, the son of Arthur W. and Ruby (Brand) Lathrop. After the death of his parents, Don was raised by his foster parents, Vern and Pearl Mahan.

He was educated in rural schools and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1934. He graduated from Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis as a laboratory and x-ray technologist. He worked in Monmouth, Illinois, Mason City, Cresco and for 28 years at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage.

Don was united in marriage to Jean Idel Klar on November 28, 1952, at the United Methodist Church in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Osage, with the Rev. Arthur L. Hill officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Osage; four daughters, Kay Bartrom of Liberty, Mo., Donna Sandvik of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Linda Lathrop of Chicago, Illinois, and Lori Neve and her husband, Doug, of Nora Springs; a son, Paul Lathrop and his wife, Pam, of Mason City; five grandchildren, Jason Sandvik of Fort Collins, Colo., Ross and Nikki Bartrom of Liberty, Missouri, and Pattie and Bryan Lathrop of Mason City; two sisters, Ruth Lathrop and Ruby Charter, both of Madrid; a brother, Arthur Lathrup, of Dallas Center; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, a sister and two brothers.
