ESTHER A. GROTH

OSAGE, IOWA - Esther A. Groth, 95, formerly of Osage and St. Ansgar, died on Monday, January 31, 2000, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Esther was born Aug. 14, 1904, at Grafton, the daughter of William and Martha (Feldt) Lutz. She was baptized on Sept. 18, 1904, by the Rev. John Landdeck and confirmed on March 28, 1920, by the Rev. Carl Landdeck at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. The family moved to Otranto in 1913 and she graduated from Otranto High School in 1924.

Esther was united in marriage to Ervin Groth on June 13, 1929, by the Rev. Paul Brammer at her home in Otranto. They farmed near Otranto, Osage and St. Ansgar. Ervin died Aug. 21, 1951. Later Esther moved to Osage where she worked at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital and later with the Mitchell County homemaker health care.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Chris F. Gugel officiating. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Esther is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Sullivan and her husband, Keith, of Osage and Barbara Rosel and her husband, Richard, of Clear Lake; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elmer Lutz of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin, in 1951; two sons, John and David; and a sister, Elvira Kittleson.
