L. M. Ryce, 1839-1904
------------------------------------------------

Death of L. M. Ryce

At his home on South Seventh street last Thursday, occurred the death of L.M. Ryce, one of the best known and for many years one of the most prominent lawyers of the county.

The cause of his death was a general breaking down which terminated in quick consumption. He had been confined to his house for several weeks and was very low for a few days before his death, which was not unexpected.

L. M. Ryce was born in West Milton, Crittenden county, Vermont, October 18, 1839. He received a good academic education and afterwards took a collegiate course at Hampshire college. In 1861 he came to Waupun, Wisconsin, where he entered a law office and was subsequently admitted to the bar. He entered upon the practice of law at Waupun and remained there until 1870 when he came to Osage and continued his profession until the time of his death.

In 1871 he was married to Elizabeth Seeley, daughter of Francis and Mary Seeley.

Mr. Ryce has been prominently connected with the history of Mitchell county for over thirty years and was one of the best known lawyers and best informed men in the state, having an unusual number of friends and acquaintances in political parties won by his cordial and happy manner and his mother witty, which was of a peculiarly sharp and humorous quality.

He was a man of strong convictions and possessed a personality that impressed one at once with its genuineness. His was a nature which sympathized in the misfortunes or afflictions of a neighbor or friend. He was a great reader, a fine literary critic and a profound thinker. His body was taken to his old home in Vermont for interment.
