ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Verva G. Michaels, 83, of St. Ansgar died Thursday, October 21, 2010, at St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 26, at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m., Monday, October 25, at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School Street, St. Ansgar.

Verva Grace Michaels was born on June 20, 1927, to Edward and Olive (Goldthorpe) Chehock in Plymouth. She was baptized in the Plymouth Methodist Church. Verva graduated from Plymouth High School in 1945, and attended Hamilton Business College, now Kaplan University, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, she worked at Iowa Retail Hardware Association in Mason City.
On October 22, 1947, Verva married LaVerne R. Michaels at Plymouth Methodist Church. They lived in St. Ansgar, and to this union three children were born.
She worked as secretary to the Principal at St. Ansgar High school for 20 years, retiring in 1988.
Verva enjoyed traveling, shopping, and golf but her greatest enjoyment was the time she spent with her family. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, active in the Mary Ruth circle, Clausen Colony Questers, and American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Verva is survived by her children Suzanne (Dean) Shoars of Waverly, Steven (Mary Jane) Michaels and Mark Michaels of St. Ansgar; five grandchildren Jason (Jennifer) Shoars of Waverly, Ryan (Lynne) Shoars of Tampa, Florida, Brendan (Sequoyah) Shoars of Spring Creek, Nevada, Dr. Lindsey Michaels of Iowa City, Laura Michaels, of Chicago, Illinois; five great-grandchildren: Jackson, Garret and Jillian Shoars, Taylor Shoars and Sienna Shoars. One sister Shella E. (Don) Anderson of Carson City, Nev. and brother-in-law Gerald (Mary Ann) Halverson of St. Ansgar.
