Osage -- "Fred Bechtum, 49, Mitchell County assessor, died here Christmas morning following a heart attack. Funeral services are set for Thursday. Mr. Bechtum was born March 9, 1902, at Plano, Ill. In 1908, he moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Bechtum to a farm near Ricevill, Iowa.
Mr. Bechtum married Elsie Witt, Gladbrook, Iowa, Sept. 16, 1924. They lived on the family farm near Riceville until 1949, when they moved to Osage. Surviving are his widow, 4 sons, a daughter, 3 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Dannewitz, and Mrs. Henry J. Moeller. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in Osage with the Rev. M.E. Dorr officiating.
On December 4, Frederick had suffered a heart attack at his office and was taken to the local hospital. He was released on December 23rd. He suffered a second attack at his home early Christmas morning and was returned to the hospital, where he died at 6 o'clock.
He was the Osage county assessor. Also, he was AAA chairman in Jenkins township, a director of the Little Cedar elevator and creamery, and a member of the Mossville school board."
