Theresa (Gilgenbach) Blake 1910-2010
Theresa Blake, age 100, of Stacyville, Iowa, died Monday, September 20, 2010, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2010, at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Inurnment will be at the Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Stacyville. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with a Forester Rosary at 5:30 p.m.
Theresa was born February 24, 1910, in Stacyville, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Gilgenbach) Weber. She received her education at Visitation School in Stacyville. Theresa was united in marriage to Corbin J. Blake on November 27, 1929, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville.
The lived west of Meyer for four years and then moved to the Blake farm until retiring in February of 1969. They moved into their new home in Stacyville and Theresa worked at the Falk Nursing Home for four years and the Stacyville Community Nursing Home for ten years. She was a member of the Visitation Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Auxiliary and St. Catherine’s Unit. Theresa enjoyed gardening, baking, playing cards, quilting, bowling, being with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.
Theresa is survived by five children, Betty (Othmar) Brumm of Stacyville, Gladys (Len) Voges of Winter Park, Florida, Larry (Jo) Blake of Stacyille, Jerry (Jenny) Blake of San Diego, California, Judy (Leo) Hage of Bokeelia, Florida; 23 grandchhildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons, two brothers: Sylvester Weber of Newton, Leo (Margie) Weber of Charles City; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Weber of Dougherty, and Mary Mulick of Cresco.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Corbin; two sons, Kenneth and Duvane; one daughter, Diane two infant sons, John and Joseph; a son-in-law, Clem Marzen; three brothers, Gilbert, Kenneth and Al “Shorty” Weber one grandson, Brad Blake.
