SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. MAY
Passed Away Late Sunday Evening
About 59 Years Old. Deceased Had Been Suffering from Asthma Many Years; Funeral Wednesday.
Word reached the Stacyville Monitor of the sudden death of Mrs. Peter May of Meyer, which occurred Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben May in that village. This is the third time within a few weeks that the death angel has made unexpected visits to that vicinity.
Mrs. May, who was 59 years of age, has been a sufferer from asthma for several years and it is believed her death was in some measure due to this ailment. She had gone to the Ben May home Sunday evening to make a neighborly call and while there was seized with a fit of coughing. She went outside and seemingly obtained relief from the fresh air. After being out for a little time, she returned to the room and remarked to Mrs. Ben May that she believed she was about to die. The latter asked her is she wished her to call Father Wirtz that she might receive the last sacraments of the church. An affirmative reply was given and the priest was summoned, but Mrs. May had passed from this life before the arrival of the pastor.
Mrs. May was an estimable woman, and leaves behind her a great many friends who mourn her passing, many of whom gathered at Sacred Heart church Wednesday morning to attend the funeral service which was conducted by Father Wirtz.

Katherina May was born in Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois August 4, 1854 and died at Meyer, Iowa December 21, 1913. She came with her parents to Iowa when but a little child and lived near Stacyville until 1872, when she was united in marriage to Peter May.
They lived on a farm two miles east of Stacyville, three years after which they moved to a farm one mile North of Meyer, where they remained until 1901,when on account of Mr. May's poor health, they were obliged to quit farming, moving to Bailey, where they lived for nearly seven years. As it was inconvenient for them to attend church services regularly, they decided to make their home at Meyer, where they lived at the time of Mrs. May's passing.
To them were born three children; a son who died in infancy, and two daughters, Mrs. Maggie Brost and Mrs. Christina Brumm, both of whom survive the mother.
Mrs. May was a member of the Catholic Church, a kind neighbor, a faithful wife, and a loving mother. She leaves a kind husband, an aged mother, two sisters, three brothers, two daughters and an adopted son to mourn her departure from this life.
Her mother, Anna Mary Gerhartz, two brothers George and John Gerhartz and a sister, Mrs. Chrisant Halfman live near Stacyville, Joseph Gerhartz at Meyer, and Mrs. John Eschweiler of Riceville. One daughter, Mrs. Lambert Brost, lives on a farm near North Washington . The other daughter, Mrs. Henry Brumm is living on the home farm at Meyer, where the adopted son also makes his home.
