Selma Elvina (nee Krogstad) Ginthner was born June 4, 1898 in Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Olavus and Karen (Ask) Krogstad. She passed away on February 13, 1985 at St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa.

She married Arthur Rosenquist in 1925 in Seattle, Washington. They made their home there until they came to Osage in 1931. Arthur passed away on December 23, 1946.

After the death of her first husband, she married Larry J. Ginthner, a widower whose wife had passed away in 1945.

On June 24, 1964 Selma Ginthner, known as Rosy, was honored at a retirement party at The Oaks as she ended 42 years in the nursing profession ---the last 17 of them at Mercy Hospital. Selma was graduated in 1922 from Northern Pacific School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minn. She worked in a Tacoma, Wash., hospital, was superintendent at Nissen Hospital in Osage and operated a private nursing home in Osage before beginning her Mercy Hospital service.

Her fellow workers at the hospital gave her a gift at the Thursday party. Her retirement plans, she said, include a visit to California.

She has a daughter, Mrs. Don Schoenborn; a son Richard Rosenquist; a stepson, Jerry Ginthner, and 11 grandchildren.

Selma Ginthner

Funeral services for Selma Ginthner, 86, a retired nurse, formerly of Osage, were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 1985, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Osage. She died Wednesday, February 13, 1985, at a St. Ansgar nursing home.

Mrs. Ginthner worked as a nurse for 42 years in the state of Washington and at the former Nissen Hospital, Osage, as well as at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City. She retired in 1964.

She was born June 4, 1898 in Osage, the daughter of Olavs and Karen (Ask) Krogstad. She graduated from Osage High School in 1916 and from Northwestern School of Nursing, St. Paul, Minn., in 1922. She married Arthur Rosenquist on April 8, 1925. He died in 1946. She married Larry Ginthner on Nov. 11, 1955.

The Rev. Joseph Nesheim officiated at the service and burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Champion Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one infant son, three sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Don (Claire) Schoenborn, Osage; one son, Arthur Richard Rosenquist, Albany, Calif.; one stepson, Jerry Ginthner, Fort Wayne, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
